100% Wool Colombian Ruana – Handcrafted Andean Poncho from Boyacá.

Hand-woven on a horizontal loom using techniques passed down through generations in the mountainous communities of the Boyacá region, in the heart of Colombia, this ruana (or poncho) embodies the authenticity of Andean textile traditions.

Made from 100% wool, this ruana is an iconic, versatile, and timeless garment.

The ruana – internationally known as a poncho – is the quintessential symbol of Andean craftsmanship. Its essential and recognizable silhouette adapts with surprising ease to any style: casual, bohemian, mountain, or city. The basic yet refined design makes it a key wardrobe piece, capable of completing any outfit with a touch of character and visual warmth.
Wear it loose for a flowing and natural look, or cinch it at the waist with a belt to enhance your figure and add movement to the fabric's lines – a detail we particularly love.

Made from 100% natural wool, this ruana is an excellent choice for cold or cool seasons. The natural fiber provides superior thermal insulation, effectively retaining body heat and naturally regulating temperature. Lightweight to wear yet perfectly enveloping, it is designed for everyday comfort without sacrificing aesthetics.

What makes these ruanas truly special is the textile mastery of Boyacá's artisans. Each piece is a unique work: the weavers express their creativity through the original combination of geometric patterns, colors, and textures, creating visually rich and impactful surfaces. It's not just a garment: it's wearable art, carrying culture, identity, and artisanal knowledge.

CURE

Wool is a keratinous protein fiber, mainly obtained from shearing sheep. Its scaly structure makes it warm and breathable, but also prone to felting if exposed to sudden temperature changes or excessive mechanical agitation.

Washing

Hand wash or wool cycle (max 30°C), constant water temperature

Detergent

Gentle wool detergent, neutral pH, enzyme-free

Drying

Horizontally on a towel, never hang: it will deform

Ironing

Low-pressure steam, with a damp cloth, never direct contact

  • Never wring out a wool garment: gently press it between your hands to remove water.
  • In case of pilling, use a special pilling remover — never pull with your hands.
  • Store wool folded in a drawer, never on hangers. Add lavender sachets to repel moths.
